Initial D vs Fast and Furious
Hello, Stephen here. What if the final race in The Fast and the Furious: Tokyo Drift took place on Mount Haruna (Akina, Gunma) and the top downhiller was there?
I learned about Initial D (an anime about street racing in Japan) from the book The Puzzle Box by Danielle Trussoni. And then when attending the Edmonton Expo (our city’s comic con) I saw a wide range of merchandise for the franchise. And finally after watching five seasons, I knew what to build to celebrate the racing.

Using Printouts to Match Shape
I had my inspiration, and I had background materials. I printed off side, front, and back images about the same scale as I wanted to build my AE8
How long did it take to build?
One of the most common questions at a show, is being asked how long it took to build it.
For this diorama, the time was about six months - but most of the build time was 15 minutes every few days. I would walk by and look at the car and see something that could be improved - so I would make the change. Leave it for a few days and then notice something else to improve the next time I walked by.
Today, while I was putting on the final stickers I thought the side mirrors should be one stud forward - so I made one final change.
AE86 Drifting Diorama
I wanted to show a drift as a way to get quickly around a corner to beat an opponent, so I used part of a Speed Champion set coming out of a tunnel to show how fast the ‘86’ would be.
